How to find your English teacher?

Everyone who wants to learn English starts by looking for a teacher. But how to understand that the teacher is a professional who can teach you the language?

1. Not like a school teacher.

Many people have persistent negative associations with school lessons. When you are still young, you often don’t have enough motivation to conquer English: the textbooks are often old, the groups are crowded, and the constant control ones completely beat off the love of the language. Therefore, adults are often looking for an easy-to-communicate and lax teacher. It is important to note that such a person is not suitable for every student. Some need a carrot, and others need a whip, because they lack self-discipline.

2. The age of the mentor and his competence.

Some students are comfortable with peers, while others are looking for more experienced mentors. As a rule, the quality of education is not affected by age, but by love for the language, professionalism and constant self-education of the teacher.

3. Similarity of characters

A similar attitude to life, hobbies, a sense of humor and some other traits – for everyone this is something different. A lot of students talk about psychological comfort in communicating with a teacher.

4. Communication skills.

First of all, many people want to overcome the language barrier and begin to speak English fluently, without panic. This will help a teacher who applies a communicative approach in his practice: during the lesson you work out all the language skills and at the same time constantly speak.

5. Good pronunciation.

In communication with the teacher, for many, the correct pronunciation, clear diction and a pleasant timbre are important.

6. The ability to inspire learning.

Some students regard the teacher as a mentor who can not only teach English, but also instill a love of the language, inspire new achievements: passing the international exam or moving to another country.

7. A creative approach to learning.

So that study does not turn into a monotonous boring process, the teacher must be able to use both materials from various modern textbooks and other resources: audio clips, games, tests, journal articles, etc.

8. The experience of traveling and living abroad.

There are students for whom it is important for the teacher to have experience traveling abroad or living among foreigners. This is optional, but can increase confidence in the mentor as the primary source of knowledge.
